Brintellix

Brintellix is a new drug on IsraelPharm.com. It’s another class of drug that treats depression in adults. There’s a difference between feeling sad and experiencing mild depression and living with MDD (major depressive disorder). Depression hits different people in different ways. While there are many antidepressants available out there not all of them work for every kind of depression or every person who suffers from it. Sometimes different prescription medications need to be tried. Here’s how it works in very simple terms: When serotonin is released by the brain it gets naturally reabsorbed back into the brain. If this happens too fast (or too slow) or too much it causes a chemical imbalance in the brain. Depression and anxiety can happen to anyone. Environmental factors like stress, money trouble, relationship problems and illness contribute to levels of depression but the main contributing factor is actually down to chemical imbalance. Sometimes environmental factors influence this chemical imbalance but sometimes it is affected by an existing chemical imbalance. SSRI’s are reuptake inhibitors, meaning that they inhibit (stop) the serotonin from being absorbed back into the brain. The brain is responsible for regulating moods. When the levels of neurotransmitters in the brain are high it helps to increase communication between the brain nerve cells, good communication means better regulated and elevated moods. Brintellix is part of this class of drug used to treat depression. What makes Brintellix different from other SSRI antidepressants like Lexapro? As mentioned above, regular SSRI’s work by blocking the serotonin released from being reabsorbed in the brain. Changing the way serotonin is dealt with by the brain cells alters the way these neurotransmitter brain cells send and receive messages about feelings. SSRI’s help to elevate mood which helps ease feelings of depression and anxiety. SSRI’s can be used to treat anything from mild to severe depression and anxiety/social disorders. Brintellix is an SSRI combined with a serotonin receptor modulator SMS. The active ingredient is called VORTIOXETINE HYDROBROMIDE. The drug works in the same way as a regular SSRI drug but it also acts as a serotonin antagonist and stimulator, helping to increase levels of serotonin as well as inhibiting the reabsorption. SSRI’s don’t affect all the different compositions of serotonin in the brain. SMS’s catch the ones that are not affected by the SSRI’s. If SSRI’s are not working for you then something like this drug can be considered a stronger or more effective drug choice. It’s for this reason that Brintellix is used only as a treatment for major depressive issues. Brintellix is taken daily and is available in different strengths – 5mg, 10mg, 15mg and 20mg tablets. It is made by a pharmaceutical company in Denmark called Lundbeck.
