SSRI’s are medications that regulate seretonin. Seratonin is an important molecule regulating mood, depression and anxiety. Lexapro is taken generally once a day at a starting dose of 10mg and a maximum allowed dose of 40mg a day. It is well tolerated with minor side effects including nausea, insomnia, dry mouth and dizziness.
Lexapro is indicated for the acute treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) in adults [see Clinical Studies]. Generalized Anxiety Disorder (DSM-IV) is characterized by excessive anxiety and worry (apprehensive expectation) that is persistent for at least 6 months and which the person finds difficult to control.
