Most laxatives’ typical side effects consist of bloating, cramps, and diarrhea, which should subside once the supplement has worn off. Any supplement that has a laxative effect can cause these side effects.
If these or other unlisted symptoms persist or worsen, consult a healthcare provider or pharmacist.
When a person has trouble passing stool from their intestines, it can be diagnosed as constipation. Symptoms include having less than three bowel movements a week, hard or lumpy stools, pain when passing stool, stomachaches, feeling bloated or nauseous, and feeling like the bowels aren’t completely empty after going to the bathroom.
To check for constipation, a doctor may do a physical exam called a digital rectal exam (DRE). This test can help find issues in the colon that might be causing constipation, like tenderness or blockages.
