Loniten (generic name: minoxidil)Â is a medication primarily used to manage
severe hypertension (high blood pressure) that has not responded adequately to standard treatments. As a
vasodilator, it functions by relaxing and widening blood vessels, thereby facilitating smoother blood flow and reducing elevated blood pressure levels.
It can also be prescribed f
or off-label use as a treatment for
male pattern baldness.
Dosage and administration
The dosing regimen for Loniten is individualized based on the patient’s specific condition and response to therapy. It is typically administered orally in tablet form. Consistent daily intake at the same time is recommended to maintain stable blood levels. If a dose is missed, patients should take it as soon as they remember. However, if it is nearly time for the next scheduled dose, the missed dose should be skipped to avoid doubling up. Do not alter the dosage or discontinue the medication without consulting a healthcare provider, as abrupt changes can adversely affect blood pressure control.
Storage
Loniten tablets should be stored below 25°C (77°F) to maintain their efficacy.

Loniten is approved for the treatment of severe hypertension, particularly in cases where other antihypertensive agents have proven ineffective. Hypertension is characterized by persistently high blood pressure, which can lead to complications such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney problems if left unmanaged. While Loniten is primarily indicated for hypertension, it can also be prescribed to control hair loss with medical guidance.
