Biafine / Trolamine (generic name: triethanolamine,) is a topical emulsion designed to soothe and promote healing of various skin conditions, including burns, sunburns, sores, and wounds. It functions by providing a moist environment that facilitates tissue regeneration and reduces discomfort associated with skin injuries.

Dosage

The usual dosage depends on the condition being treated.

  • Skin wounds: A thick layer of Biafine should be applied to the wound and surrounding area without rubbing. Maintain the layer until a scab forms. A healthcare professional may advise on appropriate dressings if necessary.
  • Radiation therapy-induced skin reactions: In this case, use only as directed by your healthcare provider. Doctors usually advise against applying Biafine 3-4 hours before a radiation session. Instead, apply it immediately after the session and continue until the site has healed.
  • Burns (including sunburns): Biafine should only be used to treat mild burns. In cases of deep or extensive burns, seek medical attention promptly. Apply a 0.5 cm thick layer of Biafine to the affected area and surrounding skin. Reapply regularly to maintain a consistent layer on the skin. For immediate care, cool the burn under cold running water for 10 minutes before applying the cream.

Storage

Store Biafine at room temperature, away from moisture and direct light. Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use and out of reach of children. Do not freeze the product. Ensure the cream is not used beyond its expiration date to maintain its effectiveness.
