Most of these effects have been observed mainly during dose escalation, but if they persist or worsen, consult with a doctor or pharmacist.
Wegovy can cause low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia) in patients with type 2 diabetes. The warning signs of hypoglycemia can include breaking into a cold sweat, cool pale skin, headache, shaking, fast heartbeat, nausea or extreme hunger, vision changes, feeling sleepy or weak, feeling nervous, anxious or confused, and having difficulty concentrating. The prescribing doctor should have told you how to treat low blood sugar levels and what to do if you notice these warning signs.
Not all side effects are listed here. If these or other unlisted symptoms persist or worsen, consult a healthcare provider or pharmacist.
Wegovy is prescribed along with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity to promote weight loss and for weight management.
There are two conditions for determining the suitability of Wegovy:
- Obese adults with an initial Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 kg/m2 or higher
- Overweight adults with an initial BMI between 27 kg/m2 and 29.9 kg/m2 with at least one weight-related comorbidity, such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia (impaired blood lipid control), obstructive sleep apnoea, or cardiovascular disease.
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a measure of weight in relation to height.
