Tradjenta (generic name: linagliptin) is a prescription medicine that is used along with diet and exercise to lower blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. Linagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) selective inhibitor, that degrades two incretin hormones to increase insulin levels in the body. The effect of the drug is to stimulate the pancreas to produce more insulin, and it also suppresses glucose output by the liver. The result will be a lower A1C.
