Tambocor (flecainide) is prescribed to treat ventricular and supraventricular tachycardia (fast heart rates) that have not responded to other drugs and other cardiac anomalies.
Tambocor 50 mg treats arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats) such as paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) and life-threatening sustained ventricular tachycardia (sustained VT), paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, and atrial flutter. Tambocor 100 mg treats ventricular arrhythmias and paroxysmal atrial flutter.
Flecainide is a sodium channel blocker used to correct irregular heartbeats and maintain heart rhythms. Its main effect is on the upper chambers of the heart (the atria), where it slows signal conduction through the AV node. This regulates the electrical conduction in the heart muscle, which helps to restore disturbances in the heart rhythm.
Dosage
The prescribing physician will determine the appropriate dose and regimen.
The recommended dosage for patients with supraventricular arrhythmia starts with 50 mg twice daily. If necessary, the physician may increase this dose to a maximum dose of 300 mg a day. The usual starting dose for patients with ventricular arrhythmia is 100 mg twice daily. The maximum daily dose is 400 mg. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
If a higher dosage has been taken by mistake, or if a child has accidentally swallowed the medicine, go immediately to a doctor or a hospital emergency room along with the drug package.

Some of the common side effects of Tambocor are:
- lightheadedness
- blurred or double vision
- breathlessness, difficulty breathing
- tiredness or weakness
- fever
- swelling from edema (accumulation of fluid in the body).
Talk to a doctor or pharmacist if these or other unlisted symptoms persist or worsen.
If a fast or irregular heartbeat is felt, stop taking Tambocor immediately, and talk to the prescribing physician, or go to the nearest emergency room.
The symptoms for which Tabocor is prescribed relate to disturbed heartbeat rhythms.
Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) is a type of arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm). It causes regular but rapid heartbeats that start and stop abruptly (paroxysms). The main symptoms are tightness across the chest, shortness of breath or feeling dizzy
Usually, the upper chambers of the heart (the atria) contract to push blood into the lower chambers (the ventricles). However, in fibrillation, the atria beat irregularly. The most frequent symptoms are palpitations, chest pain, reduced ability to exercise, and shortness of breath.
In flutter, the atria beat regularly but at a faster pace than normal and more frequently than the ventricles, producing roughly four atrial beats for every one ventricular beat. The main symptoms are shortness of breath, fatigue, palpitations, and edema.
