Some of the side effects that have been reported when taking Nexavar include:

• Diarrhea
• Hair thinning or patchy hair loss
• Tiredness or fatigue
• Weight loss
• Nausea/vomiting
• Loss of appetite
• Changes in taste
• Dry skin
• Mouth sores
• Voice changes
• Bleeding gums

If you experience any of these or other unexpected side effects, seek medical attention from your prescribing physician.

Nexavar is prescribed to treat patients with a variety of advanced cancers. The main targets for treatment are:

• Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a type of liver cancer that primarily originates in the hepatocytes, which are the main functional cells of the liver. It is one of the most serious cancers in adults and requires careful management and treatment. Nexavar is prescribed when the tumors cannot be removed by surgery.
• Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a type of kidney cancer that originates in the renal cortex. It is responsible for about 80% of all primary renal cancers. RCC is characterized by the uncontrolled growth of cells in the lining of the small tubes in the kidney, known as renal tubules.
• Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC), which includes papillary thyroid cancer and follicular thyroid cancer. Papillary thyroid cancer is the most common form of thyroid cancer in both children and adults and represents about 85 to 90 percent of all DTC diagnoses. Nexavar can be prescribed for adults in whom the cancer is progressing and who can no longer be treated with radioactive iodine.

Nexavar is only approved for adults and has not been tested on children.
