Leqvio (inclisiran) is prescribed as a treatment for primary hypercholesterolemia, which is a metabolic disorder that causes elevated levels of LDL (low-density lipoproteins). This can lead to the development of arteriosclerosis resulting in cardiac failure. Inclisiran lowers the levels of LDL (“bad” cholesterol), which can cause heart and blood circulation problems.
It is usually used along with dietary controls and can be combined with other lipid-lowering therapies in patients who are unable to reach LDL cholesterol goals with the maximum tolerated dose of a statin, or who are statin-intolerant, or for whom a statin is contraindicated.
Dose and usage
Leqvio must be used only under the direction of the prescribing doctor. It must be administered as a subcutaneous injection by a healthcare professional. The initial dose of Leqvio is usually 284 mg given by injection, followed by one injection after 3 months, and then further doses every 6 months.

Most people who use Leqvio do not experience any negative side effects. Doctors prescribe Leqvio because they assess that the benefits that such treatment yields outweighs any likely unwanted effects.
There are few side effects from Leqvio. Those that have been reported include injection site reactions, such as pain, redness, or rash.
Not all side effects are listed here. If these or other unlisted symptoms persist or worsen, consult a healthcare provider or pharmacist.
Blood tests measure low density lipoprotein (LDL) levels. Between 130 and 159 mg per dL is borderline high. Higher than 160 mg per dL is high, and over 190 mg per dL is extremely high. Treatment with standard statins may be insufficient for high or very high LDL patients, and some people either cannot tolerate statins, or have severe reactions. Leqvio may be prescribed either as a stand-alone therapy in such cases, or as an adjunct to statins. It is always required to be used along with a controlled diet that limits the intake of fats.
