Armor Thyroid has some mild side effects, including hair loss during the first few months of treatment, which are usually temporary as the body adjusts to the hormone.
Until the correct dosage levels have been determined, there may be signs of overdosing. These include behavioral changes such as mood swings, nervousness, irritability, tiredness, difficulty tolerating heat, and trouble sleeping. Mild physical signs may include muscle weakness, shaky hands, fast heartbeat, diarrhea, and weight loss. If these persist or worsen, discuss this with a doctor or pharmacist.
A rare allergic reaction can cause a rash, itching, swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, severe dizziness, seizures, shortness of breath, trouble with breathing, or increased sweating. If any of these are noticed, stop the medication immediately, go to an emergency care center, and tell them what medication you have been taking.
Thyroid hormones are produced by the thyroid gland in the throat. They have essential functions in controlling metabolism, body temperature, and heart rate. When the thyroid gland is not producing sufficient thyroid hormone, the condition is known as hypothyroidism.
The main symptoms of hypothyroidism are fatigue, weight gain, trouble tolerating cold, joint and muscle pain, dry skin, thinning hair, and slowed heart rate.Â
- In women, there can be heavy or irregular menstrual periods or fertility problems.Â
- In men, there can be lowered testosterone levels, leading to lower sex drive, low sperm count, and delayed ejaculation.
Goiters (swelling of the thyroid gland in the neck) are relatively common. They are typically not dangerous unless the underlying cause of the thyroid enlargement is thyroid cancer. They are prevalent in about 5% of people in the United States.
When a goiter becomes large enough, it may cause pressure-related symptoms, including difficulty swallowing or breathing, changes in voice, or feelings of fullness or tightness in the neck.Â
The most common cause of goiter is a lack of iodine in the diet. However, since most table salt in the US is iodized, a goiter may result from the presence of nodules in the thyroid. It should be investigated in case it is cancer.
If there has been surgery on the thyroid gland to reduce nodules or altogether remove the gland in cases of cancer, drug therapy to supply thyroid hormone will be required for the rest of the patient’s life.
