Symbicort is an inhaler used to treat asthma in adults and adolescents ages 12-17 and to help treat symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in patients over 18. Symbicort contains two active ingredients, budesonide and formoterol fumarate dihydrate. Budesonide is a corticosteroid that helps lower and prevent inflammation in the lungs. Formoterol fumarate dihydrate is a beta-2 agonist/bronchodilator with prolonged activity in the body. It helps relax the airway muscles.

If you experience swelling of the face (particularly around the mouth, throat, and tongue), rash or hives, breathing difficulty, and/or a sudden feeling of faintness, stop using Symbicort and refer to a doctor immediately.

Mouth sores (less likely to occur if the mouth is washed after every use).
Headache
Pneumonia
