If any of these side effects occur, contact a doctor immediately:

• Signs of Acute Intolerance Syndrome include: severe stomach pain, cramping, fever, headache, rash, or bloody and excessive stools (diarrhea)
• Development of bruising without an injury, fever, unusual fever, anemia, rash, or sore throat
• Serious skin rash that may be accompanied by flu-like symptoms or a fever
• Signs of an allergic reaction – swelling around the eyes, tongue or lips
• Increased pressure in the brain that may cause headaches, blurred or dimmed vision, seeing light flashes, permanent or brief vision loss

The most common side effects may include:

• Nausea
• Headache
• Indigestion
• Diarrhea
• Vomiting
• Itchiness of skin or rash
• Muscle and joint pain
• Back pain
• Change in blood pressure
• Flatulence 
• Bloating or pain in the stomach
• Weakness or fatigue
• Fever 
• Abnormal liver function tests

Mezavant is indicated for the use of adults over the age of 18 years who suffer from ulcerative colitis. 

Mezavant is an anti-inflammatory treatment that contains an active ingredient called mesalamine. Mesalamine, an anti-inflammatory agent, is used to help treat ulcerative colitis and prevent the recurrence of this condition.
