Mezavant is an anti-inflammatory medication containing mesalamine. It is used to treat and prevent the recurrence of ulcerative colitis, which causes inflammation and the formation of sores in the colon and rectum.
If any of these side effects occur, contact a doctor immediately:
- Signs of Acute Intolerance Syndrome include: severe stomach pain, cramping, fever, headache, rash, or bloody and excessive stools (diarrhea)
- Development of bruising without an injury, fever, unusual fever, anemia, rash, or sore throat
- Serious skin rash that may be accompanied by flu-like symptoms or a fever
- Signs of an allergic reaction – swelling around the eyes, tongue or lips
- Increased pressure in the brain that may cause headaches, blurred or dimmed vision, seeing light flashes, permanent or brief vision loss
The most common side effects may include:
- Nausea
- Headache
- Indigestion
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Itchiness of skin or rash
- Muscle and joint pain
- Back pain
- Change in blood pressure
- FlatulenceÂ
- Bloating or pain in the stomach
- Weakness or fatigue
- FeverÂ
- Abnormal liver function tests
