Contact your doctor if you experience more serious side effects, such as:
Duac is primarily indicated for the topical treatment of:
Duac may begin to improve acne within two to four weeks of starting treatment. However, the full benefits of the medication are typically seen after eight to twelve weeks of consistent daily use. It is important to continue using the gel as directed by your doctor, even if your skin starts to clear up, to maintain the results and prevent new breakouts.
Duac can be used with other products, but you should consult your doctor first. Avoid using other topical products that contain benzoyl peroxide or retinoids at the same time unless advised. Using harsh soaps or cleansers can also increase skin dryness and irritation. Your doctor can recommend a suitable skincare routine to complement your treatment.
If you miss a dose of Duac, you should apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next regular dose, just skip the missed one entirely. Do not apply a double dose to try to make up for the one you missed. This will not make the medication work faster and increases your risk of skin irritation.
Duac contains benzoyl peroxide, which can bleach colored fabrics like clothes, towels, and bedding, as well as hair. To avoid this, you should wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after applying the gel. Also, make sure the gel is completely dry on your skin before it comes into contact with any colored materials to prevent unwanted bleaching.
Using Duac while pregnant is generally not recommended unless prescribed by a doctor. There is limited data on its safety for an unborn baby. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, you must discuss the potential risks and benefits of using this medication with your healthcare provider to ensure it is safe for you and your child.
Duac gel must be stored in the refrigerator before it is dispensed. After you receive it, you can store it at room temperature, below 77°F (25°C). You must discard any unused portion after 60 days from the day you get it from the pharmacy. Do not freeze the gel, and be sure to keep it away from direct heat and light.
Duac may cause some initial irritation, dryness, or redness when you first start using it. Your skin may seem to get slightly worse before it gets better as it adjusts to the medication. These effects are usually mild and temporary. If the irritation you experience is severe or does not go away, contact your doctor for advice.
You should use a moisturizer with Duac to help combat dryness and peeling. Apply a gentle, non-comedogenic (won't clog pores) moisturizer after the Duac gel has fully absorbed into your skin. This helps keep your skin hydrated and can minimize irritation, making the treatment more tolerable and improving the health of your skin barrier during your acne treatment.
You should limit sun exposure when using Duac as it can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Benzoyl peroxide increases photosensitivity. Always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher before going outdoors. Wearing protective clothing and a hat is also recommended to prevent sunburn and protect your skin from UV damage during treatment.
Duac gel needs refrigeration at the pharmacy to maintain the stability of its active ingredients, particularly the clindamycin antibiotic. Once you receive your prescription, it can usually be kept at room temperature for up to 60 days. This initial cool storage ensures the medication remains fully effective throughout its shelf life before it is opened for use.
Using too much Duac will not clear your acne faster but will likely cause significant skin irritation. You may experience severe redness, peeling, dryness, or a burning sensation. If you accidentally apply too much, gently wash the area with a mild cleanser. Use only a thin, pea-sized amount as directed by your doctor for each application to avoid these side effects.
You can wear makeup over Duac, but it is best to wait for the gel to dry completely first. After applying Duac to clean skin, allow it to absorb for a few minutes before applying any cosmetics. To avoid clogging pores, choose non-comedogenic and oil-free makeup products. Always remember to remove your makeup thoroughly at the end of the day.
Duac is a combination medication that contains an antibiotic. Its first active ingredient, clindamycin, is an antibiotic that works by stopping the growth of acne-causing bacteria on the skin. The second ingredient, benzoyl peroxide, is an antiseptic and peeling agent that helps to unclog pores. This dual-action formula is highly effective for treating inflammatory acne.
