This text is for informational purposes only. Please consult a doctor or pharmacist before using any medication.
The patient information leaflet that comes with the medication includes full information about the correct usage, storage and possible side effects. Be sure to read and understand these, and if there are any questions, discuss them with a healthcare provider or pharmacist before starting treatment.
Cautions:
In rare cases, a sudden allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) may occur shortly after taking Actos, with symptoms like swelling of the face, tongue, or throat that make it difficult to breathe or swallow, or there is wheezing, hives, rash, blistering, or peeling of the skin. Call a doctor or emergency services right away.
Pregnant women should not be using Actos unless this has been discussed with a healthcare provider, as it may harm the unborn baby or pose a risk of miscarriage. Women planning to become pregnant should use appropriate birth control measures during treatment and for one month after the last dose. Pioglitazone may pass into breast milk. Mothers should consult a doctor before using this medicine while breastfeeding.
Most people who use Actos do not experience adverse side effects. Doctors prescribe this medication because they assess the benefits outweigh the possible risks.
Common side effects:
Serious side effects requiring immediate action:
Not all possible side effects are listed here. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult a healthcare provider or pharmacist.
Actos is approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults. Type 2 diabetes affects how the body controls sugar in the blood and may develop gradually.
Many adults notice symptoms linked to higher blood sugar. Symptoms can build slowly and may be mild at first. These symptoms may include:
Some people also notice increased hunger, changes in weight, or reduced energy during normal daily activities. Some people have few symptoms early on and are diagnosed by routine blood tests.
When blood sugar remains high for a long time, complications can develop that affect the heart and blood vessels, kidneys, nerves, and eyes.
Actos is used when lifestyle measures alone are not enough, or when metformin cannot be used or does not provide adequate control by itself. Ongoing monitoring helps guide safe long‑term treatment.

Most service providers aren’t trend setters. There may be one pathfinder that “runs it up the flagpole to see if anyone salutes”, but when more than one for-profit corporation is offering a similar (or identical)

For decades, moderate drinking was praised for heart and brain protection, but science is rewriting that story. It’s hard to put it more bluntly than the World Health Organization did in its statement in January
