Ciproxin/Ciprodex (generic name: ciproflaxin) caplets contain the active ingredient ciprofloxacin, which is a type of medicine called a quinolone antibiotic.
This antibiotics is used to treat infections caused is effective against a large number of bacteria, some of which tend to be resistant to other commonly used antibiotics. It is particularly useful against a sub-group of bacteria called Gram-negative bacteria, including salmonella, shigella, campylobacter, neisseria, and pseudomonas. It is used to treat a wide range of infections, including infections of the chest, urinary tract and of the gastrointestinal system.
Dosage
Follow the prescribing doctor’s dosage instructions. It is important to follow the dosage instructions printed on the label of the box.
The usual dosage is one caplet twice per day for five days. It should be taken either one hour before or two hours after eating.

- heartburn.
- diarrhea.
- vaginal itching and/or discharge.
- pale skin.
- unusual tiredness.

Ciprodex can be prescribed to treat the following bacterial infections:
- lower respiratory tract infections
- chronic middle ear infections
- severe outer ear infection
- acute worsening of chronic sinus infection
- acute bladder infection
- acute kidney infection
- complicated urinary tract infections (in women)
- prostate gland bacterial infection
- genital tract infections in men and women
- gastro-intestinal tract infections (travellers’ diarrhoea)
- intra-abdominal infections
- skin and soft tissue infections
- bone and joint infections
- anthrax inhalation exposure.
Ciprodex may be used to treat patients with low white blood cell count (neutropenia) with a fever that is suspected to be due to a bacterial infection.Children and adolescents
Ciprodex is intended for children and adolescents, under medical supervision of a specialist, for the treatment of the following bacterial infections:
- lung and bronchial infections in patients suffering from cystic fibrosis.
- complicated urinary tract infections, including acute kidney infection.
- anthrax inhalation exposure.
Ciprodex may also be used to treat other specific severe infections in children and adolescents when a doctor considered this necessary.
