Most people using Breo Ellipta do not experience significant side effects. Your doctor has prescribed it because the benefits for your breathing are greater than the risks. However, some side effects may occur.
Common side effects include:
- Headache and common cold symptoms (nasopharyngitis)
- Fungal infections in the mouth or throat (oral candidiasis)
- Pneumonia, bronchitis, or sinusitis
- Cough, sore throat, or hoarseness
- Joint and back pain
Uncommon side effects:
- Irregular or rapid heartbeat
Rare but serious side effects:
- Sudden breathing problems immediately after inhalation.
- Severe allergic reactions (hives, rash, swelling of the face/mouth).
If you experience a severe allergic reaction or sudden breathing difficulty after use, stop the medication and seek emergency medical help. Contact your doctor if any side effect persists or worsens. This is not a complete list.
Breo Ellipta is a maintenance treatment intended to prevent and control symptoms associated with specific respiratory conditions. It is not a rescue inhaler for acute attacks.
- Asthma: For patients aged 12 and up, Breo Ellipta is used for long-term, once-daily maintenance treatment to reduce airway inflammation and relax airway muscles, helping to decrease the frequency of symptoms like wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath.
- COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease): For adult patients, Breo Ellipta is used for long-term management to improve breathing and reduce the rate of exacerbations (flare-ups) associated with chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
