Zebeta / Cardiloc (bisoprolol) is a type of medication called a beta blocker and is commonly used to treat various heart conditions like high blood pressure and heart failure. Beta-adrenergic receptors are present in cells in the heart and blood vessels and react to specific neurotransmitters that can raise heart rate and blood pressure.
When bisoprolol is taken, it blocks these beta-adrenergic receptors and so decreases the heart rate and reduces the force of heart muscle contractions. This reduction in cardiac workload helps lower blood pressure and enhances the heart’s efficiency, making it useful for managing hypertension (high blood pressure) and preventing outcomes like heart attacks and strokes.
Besides these advantages, bisoprolol can enhance blood flow and decrease overall stress on the heart. Doctors prescribe it to individuals with cardiac problems to alleviate symptoms and enhance their quality of life.
Dosage
The dosage is specified by the prescribing doctor and depends on the specific conditions being treated. The average dose for high blood pressure in adults starts at 5 mg. If needed, the doctor may increase the dose up to 20 mg once a day.
Usually, Zebeta should be taken in the morning. A doctor may advise taking the initial dose before bedtime as it can result in dizziness in the beginning. If there are no feelings of dizziness after having the first dose, then take Zebeta in the morning. It can be taken with or without food, but it is necessary to wait at least two hours before using any antacids.
If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as possible. However, if it cannot be made up for on the due date, skip the missed dose and go back to the regular dosing schedule. Do not double dose to make up for a missed dose.

Zebeta is prescribed to treat people with hypertension (high blood pressure). High blood pressure can lead to strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
The most common symptoms of high blood pressure are:
- Severe headaches
- Nosebleed (epistaxis)
- Breathlessness
- Ringing in ears (tinnitus)
- Sleepiness or insomnia
