Xigduo XR (dapagliflozin and metformin) is prescribed along with diet and exercise to treat type 2 diabetes in adults (18 years of age and over). Dapagliflozin is an SGLT2 inhibitor that inhibits the re-uptake of glucose in the kidneys and causes increased glucose excretion in the urine. Metformin is a member of the biguanide group, primarily used to treat type 2 diabetes by helping to control blood sugar levels. It works by reducing the amount of glucose the liver releases into the blood and making the body’s cells more responsive to insulin.
Dosage
Follow the dosage and treatment regimen as determined by the doctor. The usual dosage is generally one tablet per day, along with a meal, to reduce digestive disturbances. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not halve, crush or chew the tablet.
