Kytril (
generic name: granisetron) is a
5‑HT₃ receptor antagonist, a type of anti‑emetic medicine that helps
prevent and treat nausea and vomiting caused by cancer treatments. It works by blocking signals sent by a chemical called serotonin in both the gut and the brain. Kytril tablets are only for adult use and are available in 1 mg film-coated tablets. It was approved by the FDA in 1995 and is included on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines.
The tablets are triangular, white to off‑white, and marked “K1”. It has clear effects in treatments like chemotherapy without affecting other body systems.

Kytril is prescribed for:
-
Chemotherapy‑induced nausea and vomiting (CINV)
Kytril is used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting in adults receiving chemotherapy. These treatments often release serotonin in the gut, leading to queasiness and vomiting. Kytril blocks those signals and helps reduce discomfort and loss of appetite.
-
Radiotherapy‑induced nausea and vomiting (RINV)
Adults undergoing radiotherapy, such as treatment to the abdomen or whole body, can also feel sick. Kytril helps prevent and reduce these symptoms when taken before and after treatment.
