If a sudden allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) occurs after taking Florinef, with symptoms like swelling of the face, tongue, or throat making it difficult to breathe or swallow, or there is wheezing, hives, rash, blistering, or peeling of the skin, call a doctor or 911 right away, or go to an emergency room immediately.

Most people who use Florinef do not experience any adverse side effects. Doctors prescribe this medication because they assess the benefits of such treatment outweigh any likely unwanted effects.

Some of the side effects that have been reported include increased blood pressure, swelling due to fluid retention, and low potassium levels.

Florinef is FDA-approved for treating Addison’s disease, where the adrenal glands produce insufficient hormones, leading to symptoms like fatigue, muscle weakness, and low blood pressure.

Fludrocortisone is also used for salt-losing adrenogenital syndrome, a genetic disorder affecting steroid hormone production, resulting in dehydration, low sodium levels, and high potassium levels. By supplementing the body’s mineralocorticoid levels, Fludrocortisone helps manage these conditions effectively.
