The most common mild side effects of Tradjenta include joint pain, stuffy or runny nose and sore throat, cough, and diarrhea. If these persist or worsen, ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist for advise.

Some rare but more serious side effefcts have been reported. If any of the following symptoms occur, go immediately to an emergency room or healthcare clinic and tell them that you are taking linagliptin:

• An allergic reactions with symptoms like swelling of your face, lips, tongue, throat, and other areas on your skin; difficulty with swallowing or breathing; raised, red areas on your skin (hives); skin rash, itching, flaking, or peeling.
• a skin reaction causing blisters (bullous pemphigoid)
• symptoms of heart failure including increasing shortness of breath or trouble breathing, especially when you lie down; swelling or fluid retention, especially in the feet, ankles, or legs; an unusually fast increase in weight or unusual tiredness.

Tradjenta is prescribed for adults with type 2 dibetes. It is not effective against type 1 diabetes, and cannot be used by children. It is a daily medication along with diet and exercise that  has been proven to help lower blood sugar levels.
