Neurontin (gabapentin) treats partial seizures in people 12 years of age and older, Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), and neurological pain caused by shingles or damage to nerves for adults. Gabapentin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It treats seizures by decreasing the levels of excitement in the brain. Gabapentin relieves neurological pain by altering the way the brain senses pain. It is not known exactly how gabapentin works to treat restless legs syndrome.
