Miebo / EvoTears (generic name: perfluorohexyloctane) eye drops act as a protective covering over the tear layers on the front of the eye. They prevent excessive evaporation of tears and effectively relieve the discomfort of dry eyes.
Perfluorohexyloctane is in a class of medications called semifluorinated alkanes.
Evo Tears is an over-the-counter (OTC) product and does not require a doctor’s prescription.
The usual dosage is one drop in each eye four times daily. Before administering, remove contact lenses; they should be kept out for at least 30 minutes afterward.
Keep the solution in its original container with the top tightly closed. Store it at room temperature, out of direct sunlight, and away from excess heat and moisture, not in the bathroom. For more information, read our article on drug storage.
When there is excess tear evaporation, it will cause a feeling of rough and gritty eyes, particularly when blinking.
Administer the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is less than two hours to the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dosing schedule. Do not double-dose to make up for a missed dose.
No. Miebo / Evo Drops do not cure the cause of dry eyes. It relieves the symptoms but has no effect on whatever is leading to the condition. If they persist or worsen, consult a doctor or optometrist.
