Common Side Effects:
Serious Side Effects:
Compounded Semaglutide is indicated for use in adults with type 2 diabetes to improve glycemic control in conjunction with diet and exercise. It is also prescribed off-label by healthcare providers for chronic weight management in adults who are obese or overweight with at least one weight-related comorbidity.
Compounded Semaglutide contains the same active pharmaceutical ingredient as Ozempic®. The main difference is that Ozempic® is a pre-filled, mass-produced pen, while compounded semaglutide is prepared in a specialized pharmacy. This allows for customized formulations, though it is not the FDA-approved brand-name product. Both require a prescription and are used for similar purposes.
You may begin to notice the effects of Compounded Semaglutide on your blood sugar levels within the first few weeks of treatment. However, the full benefits, particularly for weight loss and significant A1c reduction, can take several months to become apparent. Consistent weekly use as prescribed by your doctor is key to achieving the best results.
If you miss a dose, inject it as soon as you remember, as long as it's at least 48 hours before your next scheduled dose. If your next dose is less than 48 hours away, skip the missed one and continue with your regular weekly schedule. Do not take two doses at once to make up for the missed injection.
You should talk to your doctor about drinking alcohol while using Semaglutide. Alcohol can affect your blood sugar levels, potentially increasing the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), especially if you are also taking other diabetes medications like insulin. Your doctor can provide personalized advice based on your health and treatment plan.
Compounded Semaglutide should be stored in the refrigerator at a temperature between 36°F and 46°F (2°C and 8°C). Do not freeze the medication. Keep it in its original packaging to protect it from light. When traveling, ensure the medication is kept cool. Check the information provided by the compounding pharmacy for any specific storage instructions.
Semaglutide is the active ingredient in Wegovy®, which is FDA-approved for weight loss. While Compounded Semaglutide itself is not an FDA-approved drug, healthcare providers can prescribe it 'off-label' for weight management in eligible patients. This is a common practice when a provider determines a medication is appropriate for a patient's specific needs.
One of the first signs that Semaglutide is working is a reduced appetite and feeling full sooner when you eat. You may also notice more stable blood sugar readings if you monitor them at home. Over a longer period, your doctor will track changes in your HbA1c levels to measure its effectiveness on your diabetes control.
To minimize common side effects like nausea and indigestion, it's often helpful to avoid greasy, fried, or very sugary foods. Large, heavy meals can also worsen these symptoms. Focusing on smaller, more frequent meals with lean proteins, fiber, and healthy fats can help your body adjust to the medication's effect of slowing down digestion.
Semaglutide can be used with other diabetes medications, but it requires careful management by your doctor. When used with insulin or sulfonylureas, there is an increased risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Your doctor may need to adjust the dosage of your other medications to prevent this. Always inform your provider about all medicines you are taking.
Fatigue can be a side effect of Semaglutide for some people, although it is less common than gastrointestinal symptoms. This may be related to changes in your diet and calorie intake. If you experience persistent or severe fatigue, discuss it with your healthcare provider to rule out other causes, such as hypoglycemia or other medical issues.
The Semaglutide injection is given with a very fine needle just under the skin (subcutaneously), so most people experience minimal pain. You might feel a slight pinch, similar to a mosquito bite, but it is generally well-tolerated. Rotating the injection site between your abdomen, thigh, and upper arm can also help prevent soreness or irritation.
The term 'Semaglutide face' refers to facial volume loss that some people experience after rapid, significant weight loss while taking the medication. This is not a direct side effect of the drug itself, but rather a consequence of losing weight quickly. The loss of fat from the face can make the skin appear loose or aged.
